Kakongoka Primary School

Details: 634 pupils; teacher-pupil ratio: 1:52. Located in Nakalama sub-county, along the Iganga-Mbale highway.

With seven class grades but only six physical classrooms, Kakongoka Primary School is challenged with accommodating its pupils in safe and functional learning spaces.
Given that enrolment at P1 is almost 200 pupils, who are accommodated in a single classroom, space is an issue that the school is tackling with determination. Additionally, the majority of Primary one pupils have not had access to affordable pre-primary education.

Despite these challenges, the school’s teachers and management are committed to working with Tusome Africa to ensure all children receive an education. Through the Strengthening Foundations Skills for Learning Project, TUSOME worked with the school administration to improve the learning environment for 2 classes of Primary Five and Primary Six by renovating the classrooms to be child friendly to study.
